Brainbobbler is a mathematical card game designed to raise attainment in mathematics

Through the gamification of mathematics, I aimed to further engage students who might otherwise have trouble with the subject and raise their confidence in completing complicated sums in their head. There are a number of games which can be played with each, emphasising different methods of mental maths. Some games require cooperation, others rely on the individual’s ability to complete these sums. The differing function of the multiple, factor and prime cards would also help players to differentiate between these three number groups.

Development

In order to ensure that the content of the game coincided with the curruiculum for the key-stage I was aiming for, I collaborated with a teacher from Ronald Ross Primary in Wandsworth.

I went on to test the game at a couple of schools, both Ronald Ross and another called Tidemill and worked with the students and teachers there to further develop the game.
